My Small Steps to Employment Success

Anybody who suffers with anxiety can sympathise with the fact that being employed comes with it’s highs and lows.

For example, personally, when my anxiety is at a high, I find refuge in wanting to stay home – to work remotely. But this isn’t always a plausible option, especially given my current role in retail. Although, I know I shouldn’t shy away from onsite work and career opportunities purely because of my anxiety. I can’t let my anxiety take that kind of hold on me. So what do I do? I challenge it.

Like many who suffer with anxiety, I have days where I feel hopeless; like I can’t even make it outside that day. But with my current onsite employment schedule, I am forced to expand my boundaries and hold myself accountable – after all I am literally contracted to leave the house now. This endeavour, however, is not all doom and gloom. I don’t dread leaving the house to work everyday – not anymore at least, because I have become accustomed to it. I’ve made it the norm and a part of my weekly schedule.

It’s because of this experience that I don’t think we should overlook the importance of pushing ourselves. After all, a little step everyday is better than no steps at all.

The moral of this post is to encourage you to push those boundaries safely. Expand your opportunities by taking small steps and you will be physically and mentally rewarded for it. The more we hide away, the worse our anxiety becomes, so hit it head on, challenge it, and become a more pragmatic you.

We’re all in this together.

Take the leap.
